I was at work today, because MLK day got bumped so the Friday after thanksgiving is a holiday.
So let it be known that today, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. joins the ranks of the ilk of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Truely, whether black or white, if you believe in yourself, one day you too can have your birthday juggled to make a long weekend.
Truely a great day for equality.

Conversation at work:
"She signed up 24/7"
"Yeah but 24 divided by 7 is what, three hours a day?"

Every day when I eat lunch I like to look out the window. I like to look out at the big, glorious world and think of all the wonderous variety and number of people out there in the world, several of whom I have absolutely no desire to punch in the head.

I'm now on my 5th manager in 2 years at work. Feels like I'm being passed around more than a blunt at a Grateful Dead concert.

Protip: "Seat of Pants" is not, in fact, a software development methodology.

OK, *somebody* fed a big bowl of stupid to every computer I've interacted with today. Which one of you was it?

Yeah, so shitty week at work this week1. Layoffs, gutting whole teams. I knew my job wasn't going to get axed this week, but still pretty stressful.
Unlike most people in my field, I don't change jobs very freqently. When I started my current gig the industry was still pretty much in the dot-com-bust crapper. This week's layoffs just seem to remind me of that time. It's been a week of deja vu all over again.
1If you follow business news closely you might be able to guess where this is. But I'd rather not name names.

Today I spent most of the day reading documentation that was out of date, trying to figure out software that doesn't work, so it can produce output that will, in all likelihood, be largely ignored. At the top of the page in 1-inch tall letters: "Center for Software Excellence".

The good news: Microsoft plans to cut carbon footprint by 30% by 2012
The bad news: By "carbon" we mean "employees"
